US removes rule that restricted H1B applications
The US has removed a rule that restricted the number of H1B applications in the country.
The Trump administration had brought about changes in the definition of ‘specialty occupation’ impacting the eligibility of H1B applications.
The move was earlier proposed in October 2020 to increase the employment of American workers in the U.S. and restrict foreign workers.
H-1B visa allows US employers to temporarily employ workers from other countries in ‘specialty occupations’.
India usually accounts for more than 60% of the total H1B visa applications received by the US from around the world per year. Hence this move by the Joe Biden administration can be seen as a relief for Indian firms.
